The vinegar smell will be somewhat overpowering at first, but once it absorbs the intruding odor, it is not. If multiple rooms of your apartment are smoky, do the same for each room. Being a smoker myself, my personal experiences with "smoke eater" fans a person can purchase have not been impressive. Save your money and spend a buck on a gallon of vinegar first!
