I was thinking about getting my tongue pierced, but I smoke. I understand that it can cause infection ect ect. I can deal with no smoking for 3 weeks or however long it takes it to heal, but after it’s healed, would smoking irritate it?
It takes longer than 3 weeks to heal.
Sometimes, for it to completely heal, it can take months.
Smoking before, yes, can cause infection, or just make it heal slower.
Afterwards though, it shouldn’t bother it much
I have a friend that smokes with his, but he complains of it being sore sometimes (although he won’t believe that smoking might be the reason :-P )
Try to give it 5 weeks, just to be sure.
You should be good to go with no problems.
I’ll be honest…I did it almost right after wards. It was stupid, and I did not heal as quick as I should of. I could have caused an infection, blah, blah, blah….but I always rinsed after wards with an alcohol free mouth wash. Smoking may irritate it, but your teeth will too, and everything you put in your mouth. I have had mine pierced twice. The first time I took it out because I chipped a tooth, and the second time was because I did not want to work at a tattoo shop anymore, and wanted to start my real career. Just be careful.
I have my tounge pierced, and I continued to smoke while it healed. Just carry a bottle of Listerine with you and swish after each smoke break!
Oral piercings take 8-10 weeks to completely heal.
buy the ocean salt water spray ! that’s what i got after i got my tongue pierced . no smoke wont hurt it after its healed. just get what the piercer suggest thats what i did.
