What are the laws in regards to smoking and public places in Texas?

Where I live they have a statewide ban on smoking inside any public building. The only exception is the Indian casinos. Does Texas have a similar ban or can you still smoke inside some businesses?

There’s no statewide ban….just all restaurants have to have a non-smoking section, and no smoking on school grounds. That’s it as far as I know.

In some specific cities there are bans on smoking inside public places though.

I walked inside of a store/gas station yesterday and there was an older man sitting at some type of game machine smoking inside the store. I was shocked. There is no smoking in any of the restaurants around here, and I know at the hospital you have to stay so many feet away from the doors to be able to smoke.
    We live in Alvin

there isn’t a state wide ban on smoking in public places but there are city riddance’s that prohibit it. You can’t smoke in gov’t buildings/police/fire stations, or at schools (elem-high schools). Houston has passed an ordinance banning smoking in most restaurants and bars with the exception of smoking bars. Most businesses will have a sign on the door alerting you to the fact that it is a non-smoking business.

Many, but not all, restauarants/venues in Houston are non smoking but it doesn’t bother me b/c I am a non smoker. I didn’t know there was a law. Many hotels are becoming all non smoking too which sux for the tokers lol.
