jaime asked:
We are in quite a predicament here because we only have a few hotels to choose from but they only have smoking rooms. we DON’T smoke but thought maybe the room wouldn’t be too much different from a non smoking room. so do the smoking rooms smell gross? will that be a big mistake?
I smoke in non-smoking hotel rooms.
No. They clean the rooms. It’s just that people have smoked in them. I’ve never been in a smoking room that smelled bad. If you’re worried about it take some air freshener with you.
it smells horrible. if u really have to get those rooms, i suggest lots and lots of air fresheners
All rooms smell. Wether you know it or not, most of the nonsmoking rooms you have been in, have been smoked in. Smokers in the opposite predicament as you had to take one!
If I’m unfortunate enough to get landed with a smoking room they always smell gross to me!
The smell is Horrific. Yes, you can tell it is a smoking room in a smoking wing. Pay the extra money to get another hotel, but dont stay in that room!
If you are not a smoker you will hate it in there. I smoke and I hate smoking rooms cause they smell gross, but if it is the only thing they have and you really need a room just bring lots of Air freshener
yeah they smell gross. smoke travels far and usually stays for a while. becuz we were in a smokin section of a hotel once becuz that’s the only rooms they had left and we could smell it in our rooms. plus it’s not healthy for u so u shouldn’t be around it.
usually smoking rooms have vents in them which get out the smoke. if there is a window there shouldn’t be much of a smell and the furniture should be cleaned regularly reducing any smell of smoke. I don’t think it would smell so bad that you couldn’t stand it.
Yes, however place a request for a comparable non-smoking room to automaticly book the change, with the hotel front desk as soon as possible. Blame a chronic respiratory condition. Worst case scenario is that they place you in a Handicapped room which is always Non-smoking. And if a non-smoking room does Not become available, remember that “This, too, shall pass.”
Unless it is a new hotel…yes it will smell. THose who say no are more likely to be smokers or around smoking…
A few hotels can normally get the smell out, but the cost is high and still smells. Smoke penetrates EVERYTHING.
Yes, they always smell funk-nasty. I am a part-time smoker, and I never get smoking rooms.
I ran into this problem a few months ago. I stay in hotels often due to travel with my job. When non smoking rooms are not available. You can tell the hotel that the smell of smoke makes you ill and that you cannot tolerate the smell. Most Hotels, 3 star or better, have an ozone generator. Which is placed in the vacant room for about an hour to remove the harsh smells of smoke, mold, food, etc. However, depending on how soon you check in after the process you may smell a faint chemical smell in the room. Imagine the way your clothes smell when fresh from the cleaners times ten. Just make sure that it’s done well in advance.
This process will effectively eliminate the odor.
